APOSTLES AND HOW THEY WERE “SENT OUT”
Apostles sent Peter
and John to Samaritan villages:
Acts 8:14
“Now when the apostles, which were at Jerusalem heard that
Samaria had received the word of God, they sent
them Peter and John.”
Peter was sent by
the Holy Spirit:
Acts 10:19
“And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting...And as
I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the
beginning.”
Barnabas was sent by
the church in Jerusalem to Antioch:
Acts 11:22
“Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church
which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he
should go as far as Antioch.”
Barnabas and Saul
were sent by disciples in Antioch to Jerusalem:
Acts 12:25
“Then the disciples (Antioch)...sent relief to the elders
(Jerusalem) by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.”
Barnabas and Saul
were sent on mission from Antioch:
Acts 13:1-4
“As they (prophets & teachers) ministered to the Lord,
and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul
for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had
fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them
away. So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed.”
Barnabas and Saul
were recommended for the work by the church in Antioch:
Acts 14:26-27
“And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had
been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they
fulfilled.”
Paul and Barnabas
were sent to Jerusalem by the disciples in Antioch:
Acts 15:2-3
“They determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of
them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders
about this question. And being brought on their way by the
church...”
Paul and Silas were
recommended by the brethren at Antioch:
Acts 15:38-41
“Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the
brethren unto the grace of God...”
Preachers to be sent:
Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not
believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have
not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how
shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How
beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace,
and bring glad tidings of good things?
