PSALM 23

A Psalm of David

  1. "The Lord(yahweh=He who is; I AM) is my shepherd(raah=to feed sheep): I shall not want(chaser=not lack).
  2. He maketh me to lie down(rabats=to cause to crouch) in green(deshe=tender grass) pastures(naah=habitation; comely place): he leadeth(nahal=to tend) me beside the still(menuchah=place of rest) waters(mayim=water).
  3. He restoreth(shub=to turn back) my soul(nephesh=mind, will, emotions): he leadeth(machah=to lead forth, put forth) me in the paths(magal=broad path) of righteousness(tsedq=justice) for his name’s sake(shem=renown).
  4. Yea, though I walk through(yalak=to go on) the valley(gay=low plain; gorge) of the shadow of death(tsalmaveth=a great shade), I will fear(yare=reverance) no evil(ra=bad): for thou art with me; thy rod(shebet=rod) and thy staff(misheneth=stay, support) they comfort(nacham=to give forth sighs) me.
  5. Thou preparest(arak=to arrange) a table(shulchan=a table) before me in the presence of mine enemies(tsarar=to straiten, distress): thou anointest my head(rosh=head) with oil(shemen=ointment); my cup(kos=cup) runneth over.
  6. Surely goodness(tob=good) and mercy(chesed=loving kindness) shall follow me(radaph=to pursue) all the days(yamin=days) of my life(chaiyim=life): and I will dwell(yashab=to sit down, or still) in the house(bayith=household) of the Lord(yahweh=He who is; I AM forever(yamim=for the length of days)"
