Love For God

 

Hebrew:

aheb = to love

racham = to love, pity, be merciful

 

Greek:

agape = love, God kind of love

agapao = to love, God kind of love

phileo = to be a friend

 

Old Testament:

1.     Deuteronomy 6:5 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God(aheb) with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

2.     Deuteronomy 11:1 “Therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God(aheb), and keep his charge, and his statues, and he judgments, and his commandments, always.”

3.     Deuteronomy 11:13-14 “And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God(aheb), and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, that I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.”

4.     Deuteronomy 11:22-23 “For is ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God(aheb), to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; then will the Lord drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves...”

5.     Deuteronomy 13:3 “Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God(aheb) with all your heart and with all your soul.”

6.     Deuteronomy 19:9 “If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God(aheb), and to walk ever in his ways; then shall thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:”

7.     Deuteronomy 30:6 “And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God(aheb) with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and that thou mayest live.”

8.     Deuteronomy 30:16 “In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God(aheb), to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.”

9.     Deuteronomy 30:20 “That thou mayest love the Lord thy God(aheb), and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

10. Joshua 22:5 “But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God(aheb), and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

11. Joshua 23:11 “Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God(aheb).”

12. I Kings 3:3 “And Solomon loved the Lord(aheb), walking in the statues of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.”

13. Nehemiah 1:5 “And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him(aheb) and observe his commandments:”

14. Psalm 5:11 “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.”

15. Psalm 18:1I will love thee, O lord(racham), my strength.”

16. Psalm 31:23 “O love the Lord(aheb), all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.”

17. Psalm 69:36 “The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name(aheb) shall dwell therein.”

18. Psalm 97:10 “Ye that love the Lord(aheb), hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.”

19. Psalm 116:1 “I love the Lord(aheb), because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.”

20. Psalm 119:132 “Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name(aheb).”

21. Psalm 145:20 “The Lord preserveth all them that love him(aheb): but all the wicked will he destroy.”

 

New Testament:

1.     Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God(agapao) with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

2.     John 14:15 “I ye love me(agapao), keep my commandments.”

3.     John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me(agapao): and he that loveth me(agapao) shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

4.     John 14:23-24 “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me(agapao), he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.  He that loveth me not(agapao) keepeth not my sayings and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”

5.     John 14:28  “Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you.  If ye loved me(agapao), ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.”

6.     John 21:15-20 “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these(agapao)?  He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee(phileo).  He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.  He saith to him again the second time, Simon, sons of Jonas, lovest thou me(agapao)?  He saith unto him, Yea, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee(phileo).  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me(phileo)?  Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, lovest thous me(phileo)?  And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee(phileo).  Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou was young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.  This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God.  And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.”

7.     Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God(agapo), to them who are the called according to the will of God.”

8.     I Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him(agapao).”

9.     I Corinthians 8:3 “But if any man love God(agapao), the same is know of him.”

10.I Corinthians 16:22 “If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ(agapao), let him be Anathema.  Maranatha.”

11.James 1:12 ”Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him(agapao).”

12.James 2:5 “Hearken my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him(agapao)?”

13. I Peter 1:8 “Whom(Jesus)having not seen, ye love(agapao); in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:”

14.I John 4:19 We love him(agapao), because he first loved us(agapao).”

15.I John 4:21 “And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God(agapao) love his brother also(agapao).”

16.I John 5:1-3 “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him(agapao) also that is begotten of him(agapao)  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God(agapao), and keep his commandments.  For this is the love of God(agape), that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”

17.Revelation 2:4 “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love(agape).”
