Mystery
Greek:
musterion - what is known only to the initiated, to
initiate into the mysteries, secrets. According to W.E. Vine, “The
Greek word musterion denotes that which
is outside the range of unassisted natural apprehension, that can be
known only by Divine revelation, and is made known in a manner and
at a time appointed by God, and to those only who are illumined by
His Spirit.”
New Testament
Scriptures:
-
Matthew 13:10-17 “And the
disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them
in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given
unto you to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever
hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance:
but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that
he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they
seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do thy
understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias,
which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand:
and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this
people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of
hearing, and their eyes they have closed: lest at any time they
should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should
understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I
should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and
your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many
prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things
which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things
which ye hear, and have not heard them.”
-
Mark 4:10-12 “And when he was
alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the
parable. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the
mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto
them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may
hear, and not understand; let at any time they should be
converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.”
-
Luke 8:0-10 “And his disciples asked him,
saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is
given to know the mysteries of the kingdom
of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not
see, and hearing, they might not understand.”
-
Romans 11:25 “For I would not, brethren, that
ye should be ignorant of this mystery(“All
Israel shall be saved”), lest ye should be wise in
your own conceits: that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
unto the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.”
-
Romans 16:25 “Now to him that is
of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the
preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation(apokalupsis
= an uncovering) of the mystery, which was
kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest, and
by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment
of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the
obedience of faith: To God only wise, be glory through Jesus
Christ for ever. Amen.”
-
I Corinthians 2:7

shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be
changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”
-
Ephesians 1:9 “Having made known
unto us the mystery of his will, according
to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: that in
the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather
together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven,
and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have
obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the
purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his
own will: that we should be to the praise of his glory, who
first trusted in Christ.“
-
Ephesians 3:3-6 “How that by
revelation he made known unto me the mystery:
(as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may
understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of
men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets
by the Spirit; that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of

gospel;”

all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from

mystery of
the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein
I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his
body's sake, which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister,
according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for
you, to fulfill the word of God; even the
mystery which
hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made
manifest to his saints; To whom God would make known what is the
riches of the glory of this mystery
among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all
wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Whereunto I also labor, striving according to his working, which
worketh in me mightily.”
-
Colossians 2:1-3 “For I would
that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at

understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery
of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all
the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.”
-
II Thessalonians 2:6-7
“And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in
his time. For the mystery
of iniquity doth already work: only he who now leteth will let,
until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be
revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his
mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even
him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power
and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of
unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not
the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
