Greek: brethren adelphoi = brethren

                             adekogites = brotherhood

                             philadelphos = loving a brother

                             philadelphia = love of brethren

Acts 15:22-23 “Then pleased it the apostles, elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barnabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren (adelphio): And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren (adelphoi) send greeting unto the brethren (adelphoi) which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.”

Acts 15:32-33  “And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren (adelphoi) with many words, and confirmed them...And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren (adelphoi) unto the apostles.”

Romans 8:29 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren (adelphio).”

I Corinthians 16:20 “All the brethren (adelphio) greet you.  Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.”

Philippians 4:1, 8, 14, 21 “Therefore, my brethren (adelphio) dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved…Finally, brethren (adelphio), whatsoever things are true…Salute every saint in Christ Jesus.  The brethren (adelphio) which are with me greet you.”

Colossians 1:1-2 “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother.  To the saints and faithful brethren (adelphio) in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Colossians 4:15 “Salute the brethren (adelphio) which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.”

I Thessalonians 1:1, 4 “Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ:  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Knowing, brethren (adelphio) beloved, your election of God.”

I Thessalonians 5:1, 4, 12, 14, 25 “But of the times and the seasons, brethren (adelphio), ye have no need that I write unto you.  But ye, brethren (adelphio), are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.  And we beseech you, brethren (adelphio), to know them which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; Now we exhort you, brethren (adelphio), warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.  Brethren (adelphio), pray for us.”

II Thessalonians 1:3 “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren (adelphio), as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;” 

I Timothy 4:6 “If thou put the brethren (adelphio) in remembrance of these things, thou shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.”

II Timothy 4:21 “Do thy diligence to come before winter.  Eubulus greeteth thee and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren (adelphio).”

Hebrews 2:11, 17 “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren (adelphio).  Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren (adelphio), that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”

Hebrews 13:22 “And I beseech you, brethren (adelphio), suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.”

James 1:2 “My brethren (adelphio) count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;”

I Peter 1:22 “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren (philadelphia), see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:”

I Peter 3:8 “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one for another, love as brethren (philadelphos), be pitiful, be courteous:”

I Peter 5:9 “Whom (adversary the devil) steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren (adelphotes) that are in the world.”

II Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren (adelphio), give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”

I John 2:7Brethren (adelphio), I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.  The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”
