APOSTLES/ELDERS/BRETHREN RELATIONSHIP

Note: From Acts 1-8 references are made only of the term apostles.

In Acts 11 it is noted that it was apostles and brethren and then for the first time a reference is made of apostles and elders in Acts 15.

1.   Acts 9:27 “But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles…and Saul was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

2.   Acts 11:1 “And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of god.”

3.   Acts 15:2 “They determined that Paul and Barnabas  and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.”

4.   Acts 15:4 “And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and of the apostles and elders.”

5.   Acts 15:6 “And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.”

6.   Acts 15:22 “Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch.”

7.   Acts 15:23 “The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.”

8.   Acts 15:33 “They were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.”

9.   Acts 16:4 “And they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.”

10. Galatians 1:17-19 “Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia and returned again unto Damascus.  After three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.  Other apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.”

11. I Peter 5:1 “The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder.”

12. II Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ.
