ARMOR OF GOD

Ephesians 6:10-18


6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong (endunamousthe – to be stronger and stronger; to make powerful inwardly; power, might, strength) in the Lord, and in the power (kratos – strength, power) of his might (ischus - strength)

6:11 “Put on (enduo – to clothe, go into clothing)the whole armor (panoplia – whole armor) of God, that ye may be able to stand (histemi – to set, place against) against the wiles (methodeias – method, cunning, fraud, schemes, strategies, tricks, trickery, deceit, craftiness) of the devil (diabolos - accuser).”

6:12 “For we wrestle (pale – to struggle, fight against, grapple, scuffle, tussle) not against flesh (sarx – human, flesh) and blood (haima - blood), but against principalities (arche – beginning, first ones, preeminent ones, leaders, rulers, evil rulers, ruling powers), against powers (exousias – privilege, the authorities, the demons of Satan in the lower atmosphere who constitute his kingdom in the air), against the rulers of the darkness of this world (kosmokrator – world-rulers, Satan and his demons), against spiritual wickedness in high places (pneumatika tes ponerias - Satan and all his demonic forces).”

6:13 “Wherefore take unto you (to take up, receive up, to receive back) the whole armor of God (panoplia – whole armor), that ye may be able to withstand (anthistemi -to set or place against; resist) in the evil day (poneros - the evil), and having done all, to stand (histemi – to set, place).”

6:14 “Stand (histemi – to set, place) therefore, having your 1) loins (osphus – lower part of the back) girt about (perizonnumi – to gird round about) with truth (aletheia – truth, unadulterated), and having on the 2) breastplate (thorax – breastplate) of righteousness (dikaiosune – rightness, justice)

6:15 “And your 3) feet shod (hupodeomai – to be shod) with the preparation (hetoimasia – readiness, preparation) of the gospel (euaggelion – good news, tidings, word) of peace (eirene – peace, unity, concord)

6:16 “Above all (epi – upon, on, over), 4) taking (to take up, receive up, to receive back) the shield (thureso – a large shield) of faith (pistis – faith, believing God), wherewith ye shall be able (dunamai – to be powerful, have power)to quench (sbennumi -to quench) all the fiery (puroomai – to be set on fire) darts (belos – missile, arrow, dart) of the wicked (poneros – bad, malignant, miserable).”

6:17 “And take (to take or receive up or back)the 5) helmet (perik – something around the head) of salvation (soterion – safety, soundness), and the 6) sword (machaira – fighting weapon, sword) of the Spirit (pneuma - Spirit), which is the word (rhema – a saying, speech, matter, thing) of God (theos – God, object of worship)

6:18 “7) Praying (proseuche – a pouring out, prayer) always (pas kairos – in every season)with all prayer (proseuche – a pouring out, prayer) and supplication (deisis - supplication) in the Spirit (pneuma - Spirit), and 8) watching (to watch, keep guard, be wakeful) thereunto with all perseverance (enduring constancy, perseverance) and supplication (deesis supplication) , for all saints (hagios – set apart, hoy, separate).”
