“The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches; and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.”  Revelation 1:20

 

Definitions: seven stars = seven angels (messengers)

        seven candlesticks (lamp stands) = seven churches

 

1.      Stars – Hebrew kokab 37 times meaning a star; Greek aster 23 times meaning a star, luminous meteor

2.      Angels – Hebrews malak 106 times meaning messenger, agent; Greek aggelos 170 times meaning messenger, agent

3.      Messenger(s) – Hebrew malak 98 times meaning messenger; Greek aggelos 9

      times meaning messenger

            1.) Greek aggelos     

a.      Matthew 11:10; Mark 1:2; Luke 7:27 Joel’s prophecy of John the Baptist

b.      Luke 7:24 “Messengers of John (disciples of John the Baptist).”

c.       Luke 9:52 “Jesus send messengers (disciples) before his face to Samaria.”

d.      II Corinthians 12:7 “A thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan.”
