Minister:    diakoneo = to serve, to wait on

                        leitourgos = public laborer, to work publicly at own expense

                   huperetes = an under rower, assistant, subordinate, acting

under direction from another

                   didomi = to give

                   epichoregeo = to supply

                   hierourgeo = to work as a priest

Servant:      doulos = a bond slave

                   douloo = to make one a servant, slave

                    douleuo = to serve, to be a slave

                   diakonos = household servant

                   oiketes = domestic servant

                   pais = a servant boy

                   huperetes = an under rower, underling

                   misthios = a hired servant, hireling

                   diakoneo = to wait on

                   latreuo = to serve God

 

1.     Matthew 18:1-4 “At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?  And Jesus called a little child unto him and se him in the midst of them, and Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

2.     Matthew 20:25-28; Luke 22:24-26 “But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.  But it shall not be so among: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

3.     Matthew 23:8-12 “But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.  Neither be ye called masters: for one is you Master, even Christ.  But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.  And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”

4.     John 12:26 “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.”

5.     Acts 20:18-19 “After what manner I have been with you at all seasons, serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you and have taught you publicly and from house to house.”

11.                          I Thessalonians 5:12 “And we beseech you, brethren, to know (oida=to see, to have seen, known) them which labor among you, (kopiao=be wearied out) and are over you (proistemi=to set before, walk ahead, example) in the Lord, and admonish (noutheto=to put in mind) you;”

12.                          I Timothy 3:1, 10, 13 “This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.  For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

13.                          II Timothy 2:24 “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;”

14.                          Titus 1:1 “Paul, a servant (doulos=slave) of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of god’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;”

15.                          Hebrews 13:7, 17, 24 “Remember them which have the rule over you, (hegeomai=to lead by example, guide) who have spoken, unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation (behavior).  Obey (peitho=to be persuaded) them that have the rule over you, (hegeomai=to lead by example, guide) and submit (hupeiko=to yield under submissively) yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.  Salute them that have the rule (hegeomai=to lead by example, guide) over you and all the saints.”

17.                          I Peter 5:3 “Neither as being lords (katakurieuo=to lord it over), over God’s heritage, but being ensamples (tupos=a type) to the flock.”
