CASTING OUT DEMONS AND EVANGELISM
GOSPEL ACCOUNTS:
- Matthew 4:24
"And his fame went throughout all Syria:
and they brought unto him, all sick people that were taken with
divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed
with demons and those which were lunatic, and those that had the
palsy; and he healed them."
- Matthew 9:32-38
"As they went out, behold, they brought
to him a dumb man possessed with a demon. And when the demon was
cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying,
It was never so seen in Israel. But the Pharisees said, He
casteth out demons through the prince of the demons. And Jesus
went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing
every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he
saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having
no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, the harvest truly
is plenteous, but the laborers are few: Pray ye therefore the
Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his
harvest."
- Matthew 17:14
"And when they were come to the multitude,
there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and
saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore
vexed: for oft times he falleth into the fire, and oft into the
water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not
cure him. The Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse
generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I
suffer you? Bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the demon;
and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that
very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why
could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of
your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a
grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove
hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be
impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by
prayer and fasting."
- Mark 1:21-28
"...And there was in their synagogue a man
with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone;
what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou
come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of
God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out
of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with
a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed,
insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What
thing is this? What new doctrine it this? For with authority
commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him..."
- Mark 1:32-34
"And at even, when the sun did set they
brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were
possessed with demons. And all the city was gathered together at
the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases,
and cast out many demons; and suffered not the demons to speak,
because they knew him."
- Mark 1:39
"And he preached in their synagogues
throughout all Galilee, and cast out demons."
- Mark 3:11-12
"And unclean spirits, when they saw him,
fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of
God. And he straitly charge them that they should not make him
known."
- Mark 5:1-20
"And they came over unto the other side of
the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come
out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a
man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the
tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: because
that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the
chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken
in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and
day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and
cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he
ran and worshiped him, and cried with a loud voice, and said,
What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most hight
God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said
unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked
him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is
Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would
not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh
unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the
demons besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may
enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the
unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the
herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea,(they were
about two thousand;) and were chocked in the sea...And they come
to Jesus and see him that was possessed with the demon, and had
the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and
they were afraid...And when he was come into the ship, he that
had been possessed with the demon prayed him that he might be
with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him,
God home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord
hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. And he
departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things
Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel."
- Luke 4:18-19
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because
he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath
sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at
liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of
the Lord."
- Luke 4:33-37 "And in the synagogue there was a man,
which had a spirit of an unclean demon, and cried out with a
loud voice, saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee,
thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee
who thou art; the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him,
saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the demon
had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him
not. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves,
saying, What a word is this! For with authority and power he
commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. And the fame
of him went out into every place of the country round about."
- Luke 4:40-41 "Now when the sun was setting, all they
that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him;
and he laid his hands on every one of the, and healed them. And

art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them
not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ."
- Luke 6:17-19 "And he came down with them, and stood
in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great
multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the
sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to her him, and to be
healed of their diseases; And they that wee vexed with unclean
spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to
touch him: for there went virtue(dunamis=power)
out of him, and healed them all."
- Luke 8:1-3 "And it came to pass afterward, that he
went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing
the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with
him, and certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits
and infirmities, Mary call Magdalene, out of whom went seven
devils, and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and
Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their
substance."
- Luke 8:26-40(See parallel Mark 5:1-20 passage above)
- Luke 9:1-2 "Then he called his twelve disciples
together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and
to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God,
and to heal the sick..."
- Luke 9:37-43 "And it came to pass, that on the next
day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met
him. And behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master,
I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it
teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly
departeth form him. And I besought thy disciples to cast him
out; and they could not. And Jesus answering said, O faithless
and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and
suffer you? Bring thy son hither. And as he was yet coming, the
demon threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the
unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to
his father."
- John 14:12-14 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and
greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my
Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name that will I do,
that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask
anything in my name, I will do it."
ACTS ACCOUNTS:
- Acts 5:14-16 "And believers were the more added to
the Lord, multitudes
both of men and women. Insomuch that they brought forth the
sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that
at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow
some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities
round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which
were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed very one."
- Acts 8:4-13 "Therefore they that were scattered
abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went
down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And
the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which
Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For
unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that
were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that
were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city."
- Acts 13:6-12 "And when they had gone through the isle
unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a
Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus: which was with the deputy of the
country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas
and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. But Elymas the
sorcerer, for so is his name by interpretation, withstood them,
seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, who
also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on
him, and said, O full of all subtility and ll mischief, thou
child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou
not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now,
behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be
blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there
fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking
some to lead him by the hand. Then the deputy, when he saw what
was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the
Lord."
- Acts 15:11-12 "Then all the multitude kept silence,
and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles
and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them."
- Acts 16:16-18 "And it came to pass, as we went to
prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination
met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The
same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the
servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of
salvation. And this did she many days, But Paul, being grieved,
turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of
Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same
house."
