Missions:
“the work” According To Acts 13:1-4
NOTE:
See other teachings listed under the subjects of Holy Spirit,
Spirit, Apostle(s) in the Teaching Section of our website

Just as Jesus said that He did not
do anything except He saw the Father doing it and that He did not
say anything except He heard the Father saying it, so the church of
the Book of Acts did not do nor say anything except they saw and/or
heard the Holy Spirit do it or say it.
According to
Acts 13:1-4 and Acts 14:26, we
discover the following important truths concerning “the work” of
missions:
-
Acts
13:1
“Now there were in the
church
(ekklesia)
that was at Antioch
certain
prophets
(prophetes)
and teachers
(didaskalos);”
-
Acts
13:2a
“As
they
ministered
(leitourgeo)
to the Lord
(kurios),”
-
Acts
13:2b
“And
fasted
(nesteuo),”
-
Acts
13:2c
“The
Holy Spirit said,
separate
(aphorizo)
me
Barnabas and Saul
'for
the
work'
(ergon)whereunto
I have called
(proskaleo)
them.”
-
Acts
13:3a
“And when they had
fasted
(nesteuo)”
-
Acts
13:3b
“And
prayed
(proseuchomai)”
-
Acts
13:3c
“And
laid
their hands on
(cheir)
them,”
-
Acts
13:3d
“They
sent them away
(apoluo).”
-
Acts
13:4
“So
they,
being sent forth
(ekpempo)
by
the Holy Spirit,
departed
(katerchomai)...”
-
Acts
14:26
“And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence
they had
been
recommended
(paradidomi)
to
the grace
(charis)
of God
'for
the work'
(ergon)
which
they
fulfilled
(pleroo).”
Thus early church did not strategize, plan nor develop methods
concerning “the work” of missions, but rather were totally led by
the Holy Spirit to do “the work”! |
