DEMONIC INFLUENCE ON BELIEVERS

  1. Jesus Tempted: Matthew 4:1-11 “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil…1.) Devil: If thou be the Son of god, command that these stones be made bread. Jesus: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 2.) Devil: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus: It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Devil: All these kingdoms of the world and the glory of them will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Jesus: Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

  2. Types of Temptations: I John 2:6 “For all that is in the world, the 1.) lust of the flesh, and the 2.) lust of the eyes, and the 3.) pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

  3. Garden of Eden Temptation: Genesis 3:1-6 “1.) Serpent: Yea hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Woman: We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 2.) Serpent: Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Woman: And when the woman saw that the tree was 1.) good for food, and that it was (2. pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be 3.) desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

  4. Luke 4:31-36 “And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. And in the synagogue there was a man, which had an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of the him, and hurt him not. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! For with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.”

  5. Disciples’ Prayer: Matthew 6:13 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:”

  6. Unclean Spirits Seeking Rest: Matthew 12:43-45 “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from when I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

  7. Satan Speaks Through Peter: Matthew 16:22-23 “Then Peter took Jesus, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But Jesus turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”

  8. Satan Desires to have Peter: Luke 22:31 “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”

  9. Jesus Admonishes Disciples to Pray: Luke 22:40Pray that ye(disciples) enter not into temptation.”

  10. Judas’ Demonic Progression: John 6:70; 13:2; 13:27 “Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; And after the sop Satan entered into him(Judas Iscariot).”

  11. Satan Filled Disciple’s Heart: Acts 5:3, 9 “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Then Peter answered unto Sapphira, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of of the Lord?”

  12. Pulling Down of Strongholds: II Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

  13. Works of the Flesh: Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you be before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

  14. Giving Place to the Devil: Ephesians 4:27Neither give place to the devil.”

  15. Wrestling Against Principalities, Powers, Rulers of Darkness, Spiritual Wickedness: Ephesians 6:10-12 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

  16. Whole Armor of God: Ephesians 6:13-18 “Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

  17. Jesus Triumph Over Satan: Colossians 2:13-15 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

  23. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

  24. I Peter 5:8-10 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

  25. Jude 8-9 “Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

  26. Matthew 16:18I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not
