Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled

John 14:1-11

14:1 “Let not your heart (kardia = the heart, including the emotions, reason and will) be troubled (tarasso = to trouble, disturb, agitate): ye believe (pisteuo = to adhere to, trust, rely on) in God (theos = God), believe (pisteuo = to adhere to, trust, rely on) also in me.”

14:2 “In my Father's (pater =father) house (oikia =house, dwelling, household, family) are many (polus = many) mansions (mone = abode, a staying, place, abiding, residence): if it were not so, I would have told (eipon = to speak, tell, say) you. I go (poreuomai = to go, pass on) to prepare (hetoimazo = to make ready) a place (topos = place, room) for you.”

14:3 “And if I go (poreumai = depart, take a journey) and prepare (hetoimazo =to make ready) a place (topos = space, locality, room) for you, I will come (erchomai = to come, appear) again (palin = anew, back, once more), and receive (paralambano = to take unto, to receive) you unto myself ; that where (hopou = at whichever spot, at what place) I am, there ye may be also.”

14:4 “And whither (hopou = at whichever spot, at what place) I go (hupago = depart, withdrawing, retiring) ye know (eido = be aware, have knowledge, be sure), and the way (hodos = road) ye know (eido = be aware, have knowledge, be sure).”

14:5 “Thomas saith unto him, Lord (kurios = supreme in authority, master), we know not (eido ou = be aware, have knowledge, be sure; not) whither (pou = what locality) thou goest (hupago = depart, withdrawing, retiring); and how (pos = in what way) can we know (eido = be aware, have knowledge, be sure) the way (hodos = path, road)?”

14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way (hodos = path, road), the truth (aletheia = true, truth, embodiment of truth), and the life (zoe = life in the absolute sense): no man (oudeis = not even one) cometh (erchomai = accompany) unto the Father (pater) = father), but by me.”

14:7 “If ye had known (ginosko = know absolutely) me, ye should have known (ginosko = know absolutely) my Father (pater = father) also: and from henceforth (arti = just now, even now) ye know (ginosko = know absolutely) him, and have seen (horao = to discern clearly) him.”

14:8 “Philip saith unto him, Lord (kurios = supreme authority, master), shew (deikiuno = to show) us the Father (pater = father), and it sufficeth (arkeo = content, be enough, sufficient) us.”

14:9 “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time (tosoutos = so great, so much, vast as, large) with you, and yet hast thou not known (gnosko = absolute knowledge) me, Philip? He that hath seen (lorao = to stare at, behold, discern clearly) me hath seen (lorao = to stare at, behold, discern clearly) the Father (pater = father); and how sayest thou then, Shew (deikiuno = to show) us the Father (pater = father)?”

14:10 “Believest (pisteuo = to have faith, trust, commit) thou not that I am in the Father (pater = father), and the Father (pater = father) in me? The words (rhema = revealed utterances) that I speak (laleo = utter) unto you I speak (laleo = utter) not of myself: but the Father (pater = father) that dwelleth (meno = abide, to stay) in me, he doeth the works (ergon = labor, deeds).”

14:11 “Believe (pisteuo = to have faith, trust, commit) me that I am in the Father (pater = father), and the Father (pater = father) in me: or else believe (pisteuo = to have faith, trust, commit) me for the very work's sake(ergon = toil, deed, labor).”
