PURPOSE OF PROPHETS’ MESSAGE

OLD TESTAMENT:

1.   Deuteronomy 18:18 “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their

brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth: and he shall

speak unto them all that I shall command him.

2.   Isaiah 40:1Comfort ye, comfort ye my people.”

3.   Isaiah 52:6 “Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am He that doth speak: behold, it is I.”

4.   Isaiah 58:1Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Israel their sins.”

5.   Jeremiah 9:1 “Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!”

6.   Ezekiel 3:17-21 “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.  When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his lie; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.  Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity: but thou hast delivered thy soul.  Again, when a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.  Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.”

NEW TESTAMENT:

1.   I Corinthians 14:3 “He that prophesieth(propheteia)speaketh(laleo=to talk, speak, tell) unto men(belonging to man or humanity) to edification (oikodome =building up), exhortation(paraklesis=a calling near or for), and comfort(paramuthia=a consolation, solace).”

2.   I Corinthians 14:31 “For ye may all(pas=all, any, every) prophesy (prophetes) one by one(kath hena=one by one), that all(pas=all, any, every) may learn(manthano=to learn), and all(pas=all, any, every)may be comforted(parakaleo=to call near, exhort).”

3.   I Corinthians 14:24-25 “If all prophesy(propheteia), and there come in one that believeth not(apistos=untrusting) or one unlearned(idiotes=private person, uninstructed), and he is convinced(elegcho=to convict)of all he is judged(diakrino=to judge thoroughly, examine, inquiry)of all: and then are the secrets(kruptos=hidden, concealed) of his heart(kardia=the heart, innermost being) made manifest(phaneros= apparent); and so falling down (pipto=to fall) on his face(prosopon=face) he will worship  (proskun=to kiss toward) God(theos), and report(apaggello=to tell off or away)that God(theos) is in you(en=in) of a truth(aletheia=truth).”
