Old Testament:

Hebrew – panim = face, countenance

1.     Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.”

2.     Genesis 4:16 “And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.”

3.     Exodus 33:14-15 “And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.  And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”

4.     Leviticus 22:3 “Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel cleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the Lord.”

5.     II Kings 13:23 “And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them neither cast he them from his presence as yet.”

6.     I Chronicles 16:27 “Glory and honor are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place.”

7.     I Chronicles 16:33 “Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord, because he cometh to judge the earth.”

8.     II Chronicles 20:9 “If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) then thou wilt hear and help.”

9.     Job 1:12 “And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand.  So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.”

10.Job 2:7 “So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.”

11.Job 23:15 “Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.”

12.Psalm 16:11 “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

13.Psalm 17:2 “Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.”

14.Psalm 31:20 “Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.”

16.Psalm 68:2 “As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.”

18.Psalm 95:2 “Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”

23.Isaiah 19:1 “The burden of Egypt, Behold, the Lord rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.”

24.Isaiah 63:9 “In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence save them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.”

25.Isaiah 64:1-3 “Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, as when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!  When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

26.Jeremiah 4:26 “I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at thy presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger.”

27.Jeremiah 5:22 “Fear ye not me?  Saith the Lord: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?”

28.Ezekiel 38:20 “So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.”

29.Jonah 1:3, 10 “But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshis from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.”

30.Nahum 1:5 “The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.”

New Testament:

Greek – prosopon = face, countenance

              enopion = in the face or sight of

              katwnopion = fully in the presence of

              enprosthen = before, in front of, the presence of

1.     Luke 1:19 “And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence (enopion) of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.”

2.     Luke 13:26 “Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence (enopion), and thou hast taught in our streets.”

3.     Luke 15:10 “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence (enopion) of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”

4.     Acts 3:19-21 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence (prosopon) of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”

5.     I Corinthians 1:29 “That no flesh should glory in his presence (enopion).”

6.     I Thessalonians 2:19-20 “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing?  Are not even ye in the presence (emprosthen) of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?  For ye are our glory and joy.”

7.     II Thessalonians 1:9-10 “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence (prosopon) of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed)in that day.”

8.     Hebrews 9:24 “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence (prosopon) of God for us:”

9.     Jude 1:24 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence (katenopion) of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

10.Revelation 14:10 “the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence (enopion) of the holy angels, and in the presence (enopion) of the Lamb:”
