UNPARDONABLE SIN
Blasphemy – Greek blasphemeo = to speak injuriously, vilification, railing, slander, curse, reproach, revile 1. Matthew 12:31-32 “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin (hamartka = offence, sin, trespass) and blasphemy (blasphemeo) shall be forgiven (aphiemi = deliverance, send away, pardon, remit) unto men: but the blasphemy (blasphemeo) against the Holy (hagios = holy, pure, perfect) Spirit (pneuma = breath of God, God’s Spirit) shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world (aion = age), neither in the world (aion) to come (mello = hereafter).” a. (Background to understanding) Matthew 12:22-30 “Then was brought unto Him one possessed with a demon, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw…But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub (lord of the fly, heathen deity, supreme among evil spirits) the prince of the demons.” (archon daimon = chief, evil spirits) 2. Mark 3:28-30 “Verily I say unto you, All sins, shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith so ever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never (ou = absolutely not, absolutely negative) forgiveness (aphesis = a dismissal, a sending away, letting go, release), but is in danger (enchos =subject to, held in, liable to, bound under, bound under obligation) of eternal (aionios = forever, everlasting) damnation (krisis = judgment, justice, condemnation): Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit .” (akathartos pneuma = impure, filthy, unholy, defiled, lewd, demonic) a.
