BURDENS

 

Greek Definitions:

 

bear         bastazo      meaning to lift, take up, remove, and carry

 

burden    baros      meaning a heavy weight; burdensome; need
                                help carrying; anything pressing or that
                                which makes a demand on one’s resources
                                physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually

 

               phortion  meaning something carried, something to be                                 borne, light, bearable

Galatians 6:2Bear (bastazo) ye one another’s burdens (baros) and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

 

Galatians 6:5 “For every man shall bear (bastazo) his own burden (phortion).”

 

Romans 15:1 “We then that are strong (dunatos = capable, powerful, mighty) ought (ophelleo = to owe, must under obligation, debt) to bear (bastazo) the infirmities (asthenema = to be feeble in any sense, especially spiritually) of the weak (adunatos = unable, could not do, not possible).”

Matthew 11:29Take (airo = to lift or take up) my (Jesus) yoke (zugos = serving to couple two things together; to join) upon you, (epi = of rest, upon) and learn (manthano = understand by observation) of me (Jesus); for I (Jesus) am meek (paros = gentle, controlled strength) and lowly (tapeinos = humble) in heart (kardia = figure of thought, mind): and ye shall find (heurisko = to find, get, obtain) rest (anapa = a ceasing again, resting up) unto your souls (psuche = animal soul, mind, will, emotions).”

 

Matthew 11:30 “For my (Jesus) yoke (zugos = serving to couple two thing together; to join) is easy (chrestos = useful, good, gracious, kindly contrasted to hard or harsh) and my (Jesus) burden (phortion = something carried simply, something to be borne without its weight, light, bearable) is light (elaphros = small, light in weight, easy to bear).”

 

I Peter 5:7Casting (epirrhipto = to throw upon) all your care (merimna = distraction, anxiety) upon Him (Jesus); for He (Jesus) careth (melo = to be concerned, interested, it matters much) for you.”
