DISCOURAGE, DISCOURAGED

masas       to melt, melt away, to liquefy, waste, refuse, to faint with fatigue, fear or grief, discourage,

Deuteronomy 1:28 “Whither shall we go up?  Our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims (giants) there.”

nu    to break, to refuse, forbid, dissuade, neutralize, disallow, discourage, make of none effect

Numbers 32:7 “And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?”

Numbers 32:9 “For when they went up unto the valley of Eschcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.”

Deuteronomy 1:21 “Behold, the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.”

Isaiah 42:1-4 “Behold, my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.  He shall not fall nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.”

Numbers 21:4 “And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.”

 

Greek:

athumeo   to be disheartened, lose heart, to be spiritless, disheartened, be dismayed

Colossians 3:21 “Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.” (Note: Only use of this Greek word in the entire New Testament.)
