SMYRNA – Revelation 2:10-12

Tribulation

“Ye shall have tribulation (thlipsis pressure, affliction, anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble)…Fear (phobeo to frighten, be alarmed, afraid, fear exceedingly; phobos to be put in fear, alarm, fright, be afraid exceedingly, terror) none (medeis medemia, mayden not even one thing, anyone or anything, none, nothing) of those things which (hos he ho who, which, what, that) thou shalt suffer (pascho patho pentho to experience pain, suffer).”

 

PERGAMOS – Revelation 2:12, 14-17

Compromise

“Doctrine (didache instruction, doctrine, teaching) of Balaam (Balaam a Mesopotamian, symbolic of a false teacher; bilam foreigner, Bilam, a Mesopotamian prophet) and of the Nicolaitanes.  (Nikolaites adherent of Nicolaus, victorious over the people, conquer, lord over Nicolaus a heretic)”

 

THYATIRA – Revelation 2:18-20, 26

Control

“Thou sufferest (eao to let be, permit, leave alone) that woman () Jezebel (Jezebel a Tyrian woman, false teacher; Izebel the wife of King Ahab)…Doctrine (didache instruction, doctrine, hath been taught; didasko to learn, to teach) of Jezebel (Same as above)…repent (metanoeo to think differently, afterwards, reconsider, repent) of their deeds (ergon work, toil, act, deed, doing, labor).”

 

SARDIS – Revelation 3:1-6

Traditionalism

“Thou hast a name (onoma name, called, authority, character) that thou livest (zao to live, life), and art dead. (nekros a corpse, dead)”

 

PHILADELPHIA – Revelation 3:7-8, 12

Little Power

“Thou hast little (mikros mikroteros small, less, little,

least) strength.” (dunamis power, force, miraculous power, miracles, workers of miracles, mighty works)

 

LAODICEA – Revelation 3:14-17, 21

Pride

“Thou sayest I am rich (plousios wealth, abounding with; ploutos wealth, fullness, money, possessions, abundance, richness, valuable bestowment) increased with goods (plouteo to be or become wealthy, be increased with goods, be rich) and have need (chreia employment, affair, demand, requirement, lack, necessity, need, want) of nothing. (oudeis not even one thing, anything, none at all)”
