Old Testament

Genesis 19:13 “We will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.”

Genesis 32:30 “And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

Exodus 3:5-6 “And the Lord said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.  Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.  And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”

Exodus 33:10-11 “And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.  And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.”

Exodus 34:29 “And it came to pass, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.”

Exodus 34:30 “And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of this face shone; and while he talked with him.”

Exodus 34:35 “And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.”

Numbers 14:14 “And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standest over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.”

Deuteronomy 34:10 “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses whom the Lord knew face to face.”

Joshua 5:14-15 “And said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come.  And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?  And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy, and Joshua did so.”

Joshua 7:6 “And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.”

Judges 6:22 “And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God!  For because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face.  And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee, fear not: thou shalt not die.”

II Chronicles 20:18 “And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.”

Ezra 9:5-6 “And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the Lord my God, and said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.  Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day, and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.  And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.”

Psalm 13:1 “How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord?  Forever?  How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?”

Psalm 30:7 “Lord, by thy favor thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.”

Psalm 31:16Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies sake.”

Psalm 34:15-16 “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.  The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.”

Psalm 67:1 “God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us;"

Psalm 80:3, 7, 19 “Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.  Turn again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.  Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.”

Psalm 119:135Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.”

 Isaiah 64:7 “And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.”

Hosea 5:15 “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face in their affliction they will seek me early.”

New Testament

Luke 1:76 “And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;”

I Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

II Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

II Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Revelations 6:16 “And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:”
