PROVERBS 31:10-31

Hebrew word study:

v10. “Who can find (matsa find) a virtuous (chayil virtuous, valiant, worthy, strong, with strength) woman (ishahah nashiym a woman, female, wife)?  For her price (mekker value, price) is far above (rachoq racoq precious) rubies (paniyn payiy ruby, pearl, costly stone).

v11. The heart (leb the heart, feelings) of her husband (ba’al husband, man) doth safely trust (batch to put trust, confident, sure, secure, hope) in her, so that he shall have no (lo lo lo no, not, never) need (chaser lack, want) of spoil (shala bounty, spoil, prey).

v12. She will do (gamal to treat a person well, benefit, toil, bestow well, serve) him good (tobe to be good, good woman, well, cheerful, graciously, joyfully, kindness, loving, pleasant, sweet, well-favored) and not evil (ra raah bad, evil, displease, distress, grieve, harm, hurt, trouble, harm ) all (kol kol whole, all, every)  the days (yom day, always, one sunset to the next) of her life (chay life, as long as she lives).

v13. She seeketh (darash to frequent, seek, diligence, search) wool (tsemer wool), and flax (pishteh linen), and worketh (asah to do, make, labor, industriously) willingly (chephets pleasure, desire, delight, with purpose, willingly) with her hands (kaph hands, power).

v14. She is (hayah to become) like the merchants’ (sachar to travel about, trade, merchant) ships (oniyh ship); she bringeth (bo to go or come, to bring) her food (lechem food, bread, grain, meat, victuals) from (min minniy minney from out of) afar (merchaq remoteness, distant, far country).

v15. She riseth (qum to get up, to rise) also while it is yet (od od repeatedly, again, more)  night (layil lale layah night, dark), and giveth (nathan to give, willingly) meat (tereph fresh loaf prey, food, spoil) to her household, (bayith family, home, those within) and portion (choq measure, portion, quantity) to her maidens (naarth girls, damsels, young women).

v16. She considereth (zamam to plan, to purpose) a field (sadeh saday field, ground, land), and buyeth it (laqach to buy, take): with the fruit (min minniy minney a part of, with; priy reward, fruit) of her hands (kaph hands, power) she planteth (nata to plant) a vineyard (kerem garden, vine, vineyard).

v17. She girdeth (chagar to gird, put on) her loins (mothen waist,     side) with strength (oz oz strength, might, praise, power), and strengthenth her arms (zroa zroa zroah, zroah arms, shoulders, power, strength).

v18. She perceiveth (tham to taste, perceive) that her merchandise (sachar trade, merchandise, profit from) is good (tob good, fine, best): her candle (niyr nir neya ner nerah glisten, burner, light, lamp) goeth not out (lolo loh loh not kabath to extinguish, not put out, quench) by night (layin leyl laylah night).

v19. She layeth (shalah reach forth, stretch) her hands (yad a hand) to the spindle (kiyahor a director, a shank of a distaff by which it is twirled), and her hands (yad a hand) hold (tamak to take up, obtain, retain, keep fast) the distaff (pelek round, a circuit, spindle, part, that is district, crush, staff, part).

v20. She stretcheth out (paras to stretch apart, disperse, lay open, spread) her hand (kaph palm, hand) to the poor (aniy depressed in circumstances, needy, poor); yea, she reacheth forth (shalach reach forth, stretch forth) her hands (yad hand opened, ministry) to the needy (ebyon in want, destitute, poor).

v21. She is not afraid (lo lo loh not; yare to fear, frighten) of the snow (min minnay minney shiteness, snow) for her household (hayith household, house, family, home): for all her household (lol kol all; bayith same as above) are clothed (labhsh labesh wrap around, put on a garment, wear) with scarlet (shaniy crimson, scarlet).

v22. She maketh herself (asah to do, to make) coverings of tapestry (marbad coverlet, covering of tapestry); her clothing (Ibusn Ibusn garment, apparel) is silk and purple (shesh sheshay white linen, bleached silk; argaman purple).

v23. Her husband (ba’al husband, man) is known (yada to know) in the gates (sha’ar opening, door, gate), when he sitteth among (yashab to sit; im with) the elders (zaqen aged, old, elder) of the land (erets land, country, nation).

v24. She maketh (asah to do or make) fine linen (sadiyn shirt of fine linen, sheet), and selleth it (makar to sell merchandise); and delivereth (nathan to give, deliver) girdles (chagor belted, girdled with) unto the merchant (k’na’aniy peddler, trafficker, merchant).

v25 Strength (oz oz strength, majesty, praise, boldness, might) and honor (hear honor, excellency, glory, majesty) are her clothing (I ‘bush I ‘bush garment, apparel); and she shall rejoice (Sachar to laugh, make merry, rejoice) in time to come (Yom days, always, perpetually, time).

v26 She openeth (pathach to open wide) her mouth (peh mouth) with wisdom (chokmah wisely, with wisdom); and her tongue (Iashon Iashon Ishonal speech, tongue) is the law (torah torah precept, statute, law) of kindness (chesed kindness, favor, good deed, mercy).

v27. She looketh well (tsaphah observe, awaits, lean forward, peer, waiteth) to the ways (haliykah awaking, going, way) of her household (bayith house, home, family), and eateth not (akaz to eat, consume; lo lo loh not) the bread of idleness (lechem food, bread, meat, loaf, victuals).

v28. Her children (ben young, youth, child, children) arise up (qum to rise, get up, stand up), and call her blessed (ashar asger call, go forward, call blessed); her husband also (ba’al husband, man), and he praiseth her (halel boasts, rave, celebrate, commend).

v29. Many daughters (rab abundant, number of; bath daughter) have done virtuously (‘asah to do, accomplish, have done; shayil virtue, great, valor), but thou excellest them all (‘alah ascend, arise up; koi kol whole, whosoever, all).

v30. Favor (chen graciousness, kindness, favor, gracious, well favored) is deceitful (sheqer sham, vain, untoward, deceitful), and beauty (yophy beauty) is vain (habel habel emptiness, vanity, transitional): but a woman (ishah nashiym woman, female, wife) that feareth (yare fears, reverences) the Lord (Y’hovah eternal, Jehovah, Lord); she shall be praised (halal shine, celebrated, commended, renown).

v31. Give her (nathan to give, bestow) of the fruit (p’riy reward, fruit) of her hands (nad hands); and let her own works (ma’aseh actions, deeds, labor, workmanship) praise her (halal celebrate, commend) in the gates (sha’ar door, gate, of the city).
